King of Greystones is the race on the calender. The one and only. The sole reason I do Triathlon. Without the King of Greystones, Triathlon is dead to me.
Billy you've changed. Success has gone to your head.
It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit, how much you can take and keep moving forward.....that's how winning is done.
In Grainnes absence this year, there is bound to be a titanic tussle for the title of 'Queen of Greystones' between Keithy Mac and Disco Wheels O’ Neill. Both will have their handbags at the ready. Billy, If my goading of other WTC competitors is only to mask my dire placing in the results, I will gladly do it all day long!
This is a fantastic race, with such an encouraging atmosphere you get absorbed into the whole event, as a race, as a challenge, as a charity fundraiser.
As a race, it is always a highly competitive affair, ask Giz Kelly, who having been agonisingly pipped to the post a couple of times, is my bet to take the title in 2011, we are denied by injury, his talents this year.
As a challenge, there are many newcomers who participate in this race and for them the feat of getting over the finish line is their marker of success, for some the first step over the finish line is the beginning of a triathlon journey which leads in many cases to the door of Wicklow Tri Club.
But most importantly, this event has raised hundreds of thousands of euro for a number of charities over the years, this year, the Sam McMahon Trust and the Irish Hospice Foundation are to benefit greatly from the already confimred 200 competitors who have paid a deposit of €90 deposit with further donations to be made with the aim of reaching €70,000 this year, an astonishing achievement to the organisers, volunteers and the community itself.
Best of luck to all WTC members taking part…. except Keithy, El Disc, McKeever ect. ect..
Wicklows very own Suzanne Martin was 3rd for the women. Irene was 1st a 3time Beast competitor and Fiona Duggan 2nd. Well done everyone - it was a great race.
