Wow - the hardest 100k i have ever ridden (so far )
Arrived for the start in sunshine-became cloudy and cool- by the time we got to start climb to sally gap , the rain and wind gods were making there presence felt and it was getting much colder as we gained height - at this stage there seemed to be a lot of cyclists coming back down the hill- conditions got worse -just grinding up to the gap in lowest gear struggling against the wind, fingers gone numb and mist closing in- near the top had to walk-couldn't make headway on bike against the wind- struggled through the potholes on the road(make that lunar craters !)on down through roundwood ,annamoe,to laragh to thaw frozen fingers, load up with tea, chocs, gel, banana. still shivering a bit from the cold.Despite a mass exodus to warm vans transporting cyclists back to start decided to plough on with new cycling pal de jour jerry warming up on climb to wicklow gap- thankfully with the wind now at our backs we eventually made it back to Blessington by 4.30- a long day at the office!! slow but got it finished eventually
