Prepare or repair - Chester Beatty Inn, Saturday Nov 26th at 13:00

How to prepare your bike, the minimum regular maintenance to get you out and home again every Saturday and some "how to" emergency repairs you may need to perform to get home in the event of a problem. This is aimed at the newer or less experienced member but by their own admission some of our stalwort members have taken up to or even over 30 minutes to fix a flat.

Our first objective is to avoid breakdowns by knowing what to look for and knowing how to prepare. The second phase is about getting home when it goes bad.

It's all in the preparation!
  • The reasonable limits; where your checks stop and the bike shop service takes over
  • What, how and when to check on your bike to avoid trouble
  • The merits of bike cleaning
  • How to do a “quick clean”
  • How to perform the “M-Check” on your bike
  • Cleats, shoes and pedals
  • What to look out for; the predictable failures

So you have broken down or punctured, what to do?
  • How to remove and refit your wheels
  • How to remove and refit a tyre
  • Changing a tube
  • Re-inflating the tyre successfully (pump or gas)
  • Cables and derailleurs
  • Broken spokes, what to do?
  • Chain failure, is it game over?

Summary:
  • The most important things to check
  • The most important things to carry

This is a post cycle club lunch and we will have some food and hot drinks for you. It is very important to know how many to cater for so please copy this list and past it into a reply with your name if you can make it.
