Rosey,

The guys all have a good bit of experience of swimming in Open water, from a safety perspective I would suggest that you wait until you have a couple of coached open water swims sessions under your belt, which are due to start on the 30th of May in Wicklow Harbour. At these sessions John will teach the basics of Open water swimming / safety and there will be Kayak support as well.

For the record, it is a lot more challenging swimming in Greystones versus Wicklow harbour which is much more sheltered.

Colm.

Hi Rosey.....the Greystones swims are unoffcial but everyone is welcome :) ...however,I would wait until the present North East winds change to the usual South west,in order for choppy waves to die down, then come and have a go...you wont be left on your own,and you can suss it out ! we usually swim parallel to the shore,so never too far from the shore.............Also, the official coached swims will be starting in the next few weeks in wicklow harbour...it will be posted up nearer the time :)

Hi Rosey.
If Paul's weather caution sounds a bit daunting and if you're not busy today then the Junior club are having their first sea swim today at 2:00pm in Wicklow Harbour. There will be qualified coaches there today who will be going through the whole process from caring for your suit to getting the wetsuit on and off, water safety, the sensation of swimming in a wetsuit and some swimming too. There will be a lot of fun and hot chocolate and a BBQ afterwards and the invitation is open to all, juniors, seniors etc.

You are welcome to join us if you can make it and bring some running gear and running shoes if you would like a little 'brick run' to warm up after the dip!
