As you know, we've been following a fairly informal process over the past year or two, where members offer their weekly swim spot via the forum, to another member of a similar swimming ability.
Originally it was just happening once or twice a week, but unfortunately it has started to spiral out of a control a bit within the past few months, where some weeks we could see 10-15 members trying to swap swim places. Understandably this is causing headaches for our swim coaches, to the point where they feel it is starting to impact their coaching services. They've said there has been several times where members of differing abilities have swapped places and are ending up in a session that doesn't suit them. Coaches are then having to spend a large part of each session assessing which lanes to put people in and adjusting times based on the swim levels of whoever turns up on a particular week. This is causing frustration for both the coaches and the members.
As a result, the coaches and the committee have agreed that we'll need to call a halt to the current process. We know that everyone's intentions are good and it'd be fantastic if the process worked, but unfortunately it's just proving too messy to manage.
So if you're going to miss a swim session on a particular week, we'd kindly ask that you no longer offer it to someone else on the forum. We understand this might be a bit disappointing for some members because we know there is a big demand for swim sessions, so as a committee we'll explore what options we have to help satisfy the current demand.
For cases where a member might be missing several consecutive weeks due to injury or work commitments, we can obviously work offline with you and the coaches to make your place available to someone else.
