We will miss this Monday but Sean will definitely be there for the other races. This will be his 3rd summer doing these leagues and he loves it. Would def encourage our junior members to go for these they are lots of fun and suit all levels.
Last night saw an other strong performance by our Wicklow Tri Juniors in the Underage Interclub league hosted by Bray Wheelers. This was no sportive and all competitors clocked up quite a few km.
The event was a full-on handicapped road race with handicap seeding coming from a 2km timed trial at the start of the evening. There were two girls and one boy representing Wicklow Tri Club in a field of 35-40 at a guess. Cyclists represented Bray Wheelers, Orwell Wheelers, Wicklow Tri and others and all behaved impecably and rode hard. Ages ranged from about 5 up to mid teens.
The time trial saw riders off at minute intervals and marshalling the 1km turn-around I am sure I saw plenty of pain being poured out into their legs, this was serious stuff!
The main handicapped races of which there were two for each racer came next. For the bigger competitors the race would be a four lap out and back course on the same route as the time trial. The smaller competitors raced a single handicapped lap. In each of the four races all competitors pushed hard and our triathletes all finished very strongly. I can't report finish positions as I was out on the course but all our blue clad Juniors were up there with the best of the specialist cyclists.
Well done to all involved, Bray Wheelers for putting the event together but mostly all the athletes who really pushed hard. GO WICKLOW
Well done to our juniors. You all did your best and had fun. See you next Monday night.
Hmmmm. I'm a little bit cross and a little bit confused! Mini-me is 10 years old and will be 11 before Dec 31st but he's never been stuck in with Under 14's before. Looking at the Under 12's he should have raced with he was right up there in both his TT and the handicap race.
Now before you all call childline, no I don't push the kid, not at all. I'll be on a sticky wicket explaining his result to him! Still, all said I believe Bray Wheelers have a great thing going for the Juniors.
A big WELL DONE to all the Juniors. Amazing results!
