Athy & Kilrush were the racing destinations for some of our members over a very sunny June bank holiday weekend.
Kilrush 'Up The Creek' Triathlon
West Clare Tri Club held their 'Up The Creek' sprint triathlon in Kilrush, which was a National Series race this year. We had 2 members racing and Gaby Dillon made the Wicklow Tri girls incredibly proud by finishing as 6th lady overall, with a super time of 1:21:01!!! John Bowes also put in another great performance to finish with a time of 1:21:18. Well done to both of you. I heard it was a tough little course with a challenging 21km cycle.
In Athy, we had Andy Hayes competing in the Double Olympic race, which saw him undertake a 3km swim, 80km bike and 20km run. Andy crossed the line with an impressive time of 5:07:35, looking strong for the season ahead. A running injury meant that Corrie Adams had to unfortunately call it a day after the bike leg of the race, but the 3km open water swim will certainly have been great race preparation for Corrie ahead of Challenge Galway in 3 weeks. In the olympic distance event, we had 2 of our ever consistent members racing, Dave Gillespie and Billy Diggin. Dave stormed around the course to post a personal best time of 2:29:34, finishing 4th in his age group as well. Super result Dave, especially after all the running injuries that you've been plagued with recently. While Billy was just a few minutes behind Dave, with a very solid time of 2:39. Well done lads! That run along the river bank in Athy can be a real heat-trap, so I'm sure it was tough going on such a warm day.
2016 Club Race
Finally, don't forget that the Caroline Kearney Olympic Triathlon on Sat August 13th is our chosen club race for 2016, so if you haven't entered it yet, then sign up before it sells out. This is the race where we try to get as many of our club members as possible taking part, with prizes for the 1st Wicklow male and female, (along with a few other fun prizes too) so make sure you don't miss out
