I wouldn't be the fastest swimmer either and it's funny you should say your first Tri was in s pool, as I was looking earlier today at the nenagh sprint in April which is a pool swim. I was reckoning that this might be an easier way to start, but now you have me thinking.....

Well it was Sligo I did, rather than nenagh.

It was more to do with knowing id be in danger of missing the cut off, and supposedly being put in a wave, and then lanes in the wave, of a similar standard, but yet being over taken within a couple of lengths. Turned out those in my lane weren't of a similar standard to me, and were actually significantly faster, and it was enough to mess with my head a bit. I did make the cut off, so all good in the end!

That's just my experience - a lot of people would swear by a pool one as a first one!

So the idea would be to get out in the first wave which is for the slowest swimmers and at least hopefully not get swallowed up by faster swimmers...

Having done Nenagh last year I can tell you that there were some very, very weak swimmers in the early waves so you'll be fine! It's designed for beginners really. So as long as you don't mind stronger swimmers watching you, you'll be fine!

Just put a realistic time for your swim and you should be in the right wave. There was a few things went wrong in that regard in Sligo (which I don't think is on the calendar this year even), so I'd listen to Michael who's actually done Nenagh!
