Hi All,
You have probably heard of Eireman by now.... (I reckon?!). It started off as an Ironman distance and half Ironman distance race. Then along came the Olympic. Well fresh of the press they now have a Sprint distance also. A couple of things have changed hence the newsletter from the organisers.
The Olympic distance is now starting at 9.30am and the NEW Sprint is starting at 10.15am on Sunday 23rd Aug (the Long & Middle start at 6.30am). Registration for the Olympic and Sprint will be on Sunday morning opening at 6.30am.
Transition has been moved to a big Council car park. The finish area will be in the same car park as will a Gig Rig with DJ and live music. There will be a hive of activity with face painters, clown etc to make it a fun family day at the beach and of course watch the Triathletes with interest.
With these changes - the bike route for the Olympic and Sprint are not on completely closed roads (Long & Middle remain on closed roads). Sprint & Olympic guys will hit the half way point of their respective distances on the closed Motorway and then turn onto the old and quiet Arklow / Gorey road. It has a hard shoulder and its all left turns back to Courtown.
The guys are aiming to make this a major International event of it. They have advertised in 220 and Triathlete mag. They are giving out over 12k in prize money. They are eager to get as many entries as possible to try and break even. Maybe it’s one to consider... www.eireman.org

12 months have passed and here I am writing my second report after completing IM Lanzarote 2009. The journey began late in September after a Saturday cycle. When I got home, I logged onto the Lanzarote website, more out of curiosity than anything else. Curiosity turned to blind panic when I realised there was only approximately 150 left to fill. My mind was racing, do I register?, don’t I, have I got the time to train? Do I want to subject myself to that all over again and so soon? Within another 2 mins it was done. I was registered…… What now? ..........READ ON FOR DOM's RACE BUILD UP AND REPORT

Firstly three Wicklow Men put in some amazing performance in the infamous Lanzarote Ironman Triathlon, Dominic O Hanlon (11 hrs 46mins), Paul O Connor (12hrs 20mins) and Kevin Healy (13hrs 46mins).
John Doyle from Kilpedder was competing in the Barcelona Half Ironman and had a great race to finish in a time of 5hrs 45mins. Conditions were very hot at 30 degrees, which made the run very tough.

Women’s Wicklow League, message from Jenny McCauley This league begins on Tues 2nd June and continues every Tue evening through June for a total of 6 races.
I'm hoping the series this year will be even more successful than last years, and the support of the club is really appreciated, both from all the girls who turn out to ride and the helpers who turn out to marshal the event - and once again, I am not above using tea and cakes as bribes!
Our women’s league is one of the few chances women get to actually race against our own peers, and it's pretty unique that our club provides this opportunity for women.
So if any of you, male or female, can make it along to support it on Tuesday evenings – sign-on is at 7pm, start is 7.30 sharp – hopefully we can make the Wicklow League run as smoothly as last years, be just as competitive, and just as much fun too!
Hope to see you there, Jenny
PS The race start is at the begining of the Cullenmore Bends in Ashford

Bjorn Luddick and Darren Kelly took 2nd and 3rd place in the first premier league points race of the season in Valentia Island, Kerry, both taking valuble points in the Wicklow teams quest to take the premier league title this year. The race was run in what sounds like horrendous conditions, with Ludwig disapointed not to win the race, but both he and Kelly really feeling the effects of the cold. The team, coached by Gavin Noble has kept the podium occupied since March this year and hope to continue their success througout the season. The clubs results this year to date have, really shown the effect proper coaching has on athletes of all levels. The club welcomed UK based,Simon Ward as club coach this year, and has given club members a structure by which to train by.
Tomorow (sunday) will see many club members compete in the Fingal Triathlon and also Gavin Noble representing Ireland in the British National Championships. Furthermore, Paul O Connor,Dominic O Hanlon and Kevin Healy will compete in the Lanzoraote Ironman. They travel on Monday. Good luck to them and all competing tommorrow. See you in Fingal. Adam

As P.R.O of your club, I need you all to keep me informed as to what you are up to. I need you to email me Results, Photos, News items, Event info etc etc. I am really embarrased to see myself in the Bray People again this week after submitting a few different photos and logos of the Aquathlon and Anphibian King. Please note that the deadline for sport press is Sunday evening, hence the Time Trial results are not in this weeks paper. Please email me your weekend results by Sunday evening each week then. I will be racing a fair bit myself on weekends and hence will not be able to go around chasing people for results.
So in summary it is every club members responsibility to email adam@zest.ie any news items you have. Thanks, Adam
