Congratulations to the 2 WTC members, Gaby Dillon and Darren McBride, who competed in the penultimate race on the National Series calendar at Blacksod, Co. Mayo on Saturday. It's known as one of the toughest olympic distance races in the country, which makes Gaby's 2nd place AG prize all the more impressive. It was also a local race for Darren, so no doubt it made him run that bit faster when all his neighbours were watching Well done to both of you.
So only 1 NS race remaining this year, which is the Pulse sprint distance race in Clogherhead this Saturday. It's also our nominated club race for 2015, so it looks like we've a big crew of Wicklow members heading up to race there. There'll be awards for the fastest Wicklow male and female on the day, so make sure you all go out there and give it socks!!!
Finally, to make sure the club is awarded points for all the Wicklow athletes who have completed National Series races this year, please make sure you are registered with the club by logging into your account on the Triathlon Ireland website and selecting Wicklow as your club.
So we had 41 Wicklow members racing in glorious sunshine in Clogherheard last Saturday. This was the last National Series event on the calendar and it was also the sprint-distance National Championship race for 2015. It was a great day for the club with 5 of our members picking up National Championship awards. Well done guys!!
Kate O'Mahony (2nd in AG)
Gaby Dillon (2nd in AG)
Lisa Bishop (3rd in AG)
Anne Hudson (1st in AG)
John Darcy (1st in AG)
Brian Harris was the sole Wicklow participant in the CAT 1 Super Series event. This was a draft-legal race and Brian put in a great performance to finish in 13th position overall, with a terrific time of 00:58:27.
In the Age Group event, top honours went to Michael Pearce for the boys (1:06:44) and Kate O'Mahony for the girls (01:14:08). Well done to both of you. Incredibly well-deserved after all your hard work this year
Elsewhere, we had the 2 Brendans (Buck & Borland) competing in the Groomsport middle-distance triathlon on Sunday. It was an excellent day at the office for Brendan Buck who won the entire race in a super time of 4:20:55!!!! Superb result Brendan. I hope they had a nice prize for 1st place.
Finally, we had 4 members racing in the Berlin marathon:
Congratulations to all of you. Hope the stairs aren't too torturous today!!!
The National Series results for 2015 are due to be finalised at 9am on Monday Oct 26th. The current results are on the TI website
. So if you competed in a National Series race this year, then make sure you check that you've been allocated your points and that you've selected Wicklow as your club.
Your 4 best scoring National Series races of 2015 (of which 1 must be sprint distance and 1 must be standard distance) determine your ranking within your age group. For the club championship, the points from the 6 highest scoring athletes are counted.
If any updates are needed to your points ahead of the deadline next Monday, then contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
I've contacted them a week or so ago about the fact that the Club drop-down is broken, but if you want to see how your clubmates got on you can select "Vodafone Club Series", select the gender, find Wicklow TC in the list and click on History. It's a bit convoluted but it works for now until they re-populate the Club drop-down.
