Congrats to club member Marc Walshe who completed Ironman Wales on Sept 18th. Sorry we missed you in the results round-up last week Marc. Huge respect to you for completing such a challenging event. If you can finish Ironman Wales, I'm pretty sure you can finish any race!!
Congratulations to a bunch of other Wicklow legends to picked up Ironman medals in a wet & windy Mallorca on Saturday. For the girls we had Gaby Dillon & Amanda Mannix and for the boys we had Danny Brennan, Brendan Mannix and Seamus Morris. Great performances from everyone, especially Danny, who was racing in his first Ironman event. His smile at the finish-line says it all.
Junior Beast of the East
Equally important to the Ironman race, we had the Wicklow Tri under 8s Splash & Dash race in Greystones on Sunday With loads of club members' kids racing, it was clear to see that they've picked up their parents' competitive genes!!
Following the Splash & Dash event, the junior triathlon races kicked off, with 4 different race distances based on competitor age. With over 100 young athletes from all over the country taking part, it was a massive achievement for us to get 7 Wicklow Tri members on the podium. Congrats to Molly, Lily, Sean, Eanna, Finn, Eva and Garret for their medal wins and to all the other super young athletes who raced.
Molly Sheehy - 1st girl in 8->9 category
Lily Sheehy - 1st girl in 10->11 category
Sean Lundy - 1st boy in 12->13 category
Eanna Buck - 3rd girl in 8->9 category
Finn Buck - 3rd boy in 10->11 category

A full write-up from Garry is included
, along with some photos from Alan.
Congrats to Toni Llovera who did a sub 3:15 marathon in Berlin on Sunday. Great result, just 3 weeks after a half-ironman race.
Jersey Breca Swim-Run
Last but not least, congratulations to the person who has probably featured more than anyone else in the race results this year ….. Lisa Howley, who was part of the winning ladies team at the Jersey Island Breca Swimrun on Saturday. The race involved 45km of running, 6km of sea swimming, with 16 transitions along the way, so just a regular weekend training session for Lisa really Super performance Lisa … inspiring us all yet again!!

All the Irish triathlon races are done & dusted for 2016, so we're just left with a few hardy souls doing Ironman races overseas at this stage. Most of you will have already seen that we had 2 Wicklow Tri members racing in Barcelona yesterday, so congratulations again to Justin Dutton & Billy Diggin. It was Justin's first Ironman race and he nailed it with an incredibly speedy time of 10:12:21. While Billy Diggin completed his 5th Ironman race and his hat-trick at IM Barcelona, with another really strong time of 11:53:45.
Congratulations to Dom & Paul who completed yet another ironman event last weekend, this time in North Carolina. Both of the lads put in great performances, with Dom finishing 5th in his age group and Paul finishing 11th in his. Unfortunately the bike route had to be cut short due to flooding from the recent hurricane, however there's no doubt that the lads would have blitzed those extra few KMs if they'd been included.
I think that wraps up the last of the triathlon action from Wicklow Tri members for 2016, so hats off to everyone who raced throughout the year. All the hard work helped to see the club finishing 3rd in the National Series for the men (a massive leap up from 25th position in 2015), 5th for the women (up from 6th last year) and we were the 3rd club in the mixed league when the points for both the men & women are combined. We also had record numbers of members racing in Ironman / long distance events this year and multiple members either racing for the first time or taking the step up from sprint to olympic or middle-distance races. So well done to everyone who raced, no matter what distance or time you did and here's to a 2017 filled with PBs for all
